State Lawmakers Hold Traffic Camera Hearings


JACKSON, fast digital camera MS (WLBT) - State Lawmakers are considering use of traffic cameras around the state.
Red light cameras in Jackson have netted thousands in violations since they were placed at 8 intersections in October.
Offenders are charged $75.00 for running a red light.
A joint committee of lawmakers heard from the company that operates those cameras Wednesday morning. American Traffic Solutions wants to expand services statewide.
The company points to safety benefits of the cameras, concorsi camera di commercio showing a reduction of accidents at intersections with cameras, but lawmakers say their constituents are overwhelmingly against the idea.
Rep. Tom King (R) of Petal, camera tron 'The only people we've heard from that really want these are the cities and the people that manufacture them.'
Rep. Steve Holland (D) of Plantersville'I don't like it . I dont' like it one damn bit. It's a total intrusion to me.'
The joint committee will meet once more to decide what legislation regarding traffic cameras should be brought before the legislature next session.
Lawmakers could pass a statewide ban on traffic cameras.
