Committee set up under Parliament's unanimous resolution to meet Monday

ISLAMABADA 17-member parliamentary committee appointed by National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza in pursuance of the recent resolution on national security strategy unanimously adopted by the joint sitting of the two houses of parliament hold its first meeting on Monday.
Disclosing this in a talk with reporters, Minister for Parliamentary Affaris Dr. Babar Awan said the committee would start framing rules and modalities for carrying out its task. Dr. Awan is also a member of the committee comprising representatives of all parliamentary political parties.
The unanimous resolution passed by the parliament last month after a series of in-camera session had envisaged the formation of the committee to pursue implementation of the roadmap outlined in the resolution.
The Minister, who spoke to reporters after addressing a seminar on Allama Iqbal's philosophy at the National Library here, said the parliament had taken a historic decision by consensus.
Answering a question, he said the previous assembly had acted as a rubber stamp forum under the rule of a dictator but while the present one was a sovereign house effectively performing its functions. He said that as many as 7 ordinances, two private bills and 13 other bills have been pending in the Parliament since 2007, which reflected the sluggish approach of the past assembly. The Minister said committee had been formed to expedite legislation process and come up to the expectations of the people.
He said that the government was moving in the right direction. For the first time in the country's history, the PPP-led government took three important decisions -- presentation of defense budget before the National Assembly, appointment of leader of opposition as chairman of Public Accounts Committee and technika camera adoption of 14-point unanimous resolution on facing the security challenge. Earlier, addressing the seminar jointly organized by Islamabad Traffic Police with the collaboration of Preston University, he underlined the need for making concerted efforts to promote Iqbal's thoughts for the uplift of the society.
He said Iqbal was not only a great poet but also a great philosopher and vr3 backup camera his teachings were beacon of light for the country's youth to achieve success in life. Urging the students to follow the guidelines of the great philosopher, Dr Babar said they were future of the county and wide angle camera should work hard for its progress and prosperity. The Minister said Iqbal started a revolution, which ushered in a new era in Urdu poetry and lit a flame in the age of darkness. Chancellor Preston University Dr Basit, SSP Islamabad Traffic PoliceZubair Hashmi, Syed Muhammad Gillani and others also highlighted the philosophythoughts of Allama Iqbal.
